Regional Directors

Regional Director Roles & Responsibilities
Are you interested in taking on a leadership position for your campus?

Represent South Central Scholars as a Regional Director and be a peer mentor and group leader at your college or university!

Background:

SCS and SCS Alumni Association have implemented the Regional Directors Program where volunteers (Regional Directors) increase peer networking and mentorship at their universities by coordinating events focused around the academic, social, and professional development of scholars. These Regional Directors will serve as a bridge between scholars, their region, and the SCS office. 

Basic Qualifications:
This position is available to:
  • Graduate students living in or near region who can devote 10 hours a month to role
  • Incoming undergraduate juniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Incoming sophomores or seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA

* Exceptions may be made.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with college campus and surrounding areas.
  • Proficient knowledge of campus resources available to its students. (i.e. tutoring services, career center, writing centers, and counseling services.)
  • Previously or recently established contacts within the school who have working knowledge of the school).

Skills:

Intermediate computer and internet skills, experience with common computer software, good written communication skills, excellent leadership and problem-solving capability, great organizational skills, team work capability and people skills, reliable and responsible, innate desire for community service, self-sufficient and motivated.

Roles & Responsibilities:
A successful Regional Director will need to performing the following:
  1. Commit to the role for 9 months (2013-14)
  2. Meet all current scholars in the region in person before school begins.
  3. Maintain a database of graduated and current scholars from their institution that includes updated contact information such as personal and school email, phone/cell numbers, permanent address, and college mailbox address.
  4. Email/call the scholars in the region AT LEAST  once a month for academic progress updates, personal updates, announcements, or other mentorship purposes.
  5. Coordinate AT LEAST 1 social or networking activity or

    events per semester.

  6. Coordinate At LEAST 1 professional or academic

    development seminar or workshop per semester.
  7. Actively recruits participation of scholars for planned

    activities/events
  8. Keep an up to date log of all activities, updates on scholars, and correspondences made as a Regional Director.
  9. Report all activities and expenses using SCS worksheets

    and reporting them to SCS Alumni Association and SCS

    Foundation in a timely fashion.
